Soaring Over Mountains in Squamish

After hunting for sea lions (not hunting sea lions) at Whytecliff and trekking around Cypress, we were lucky enough to go flying in Squamish. One of J's friends, Mr. Cameron Ross, is a pilot at the Squamish Airport, who kindly agreed to take us soaring over the mountains. Dad is currently in the process of obtaining his private pilot's license in Ontario (not so many mountains), so it was extra special for him to be able to fly over the mountains here.

Anyways, before flying, we spent the morning in Squamish (the rock climbing/bouldering capital) where we started the day off right at the ever delicious Fergie's, a local hotspot. With full bellies and big smiles, we headed over to Shannon Falls, where we ogled the falls, before moving on to Stawamus Chief Provincial Park, just down the road, to check out the boulder field.

Of course we scampered up the rocks to sit under the falls; this is the view looking out from beneath the falls - not too shabby

The boulder field is really cool. It's mere feet from the main road, but once you enter the cool, damp, forest canopy, with boulders scattered all about, it feels like another world entirely. We scampered over and around the boulders, stopping to peek into the caves, before making our way over to the infamous Dreamcatcher climb on the face of the Cacodemon boulder. Cacodemon is a massive boulder marked by sharp, steep angles and inclines, and the Dreamcatcher,  subsequently - I've been told - is the hardest sports climb in BC, possibly Canada - to give you an idea!).  We clambered our way up to the Dreamcatcher and admired the climb and the view, but the photos truly do no justice.

After a morning spent underneath the waterfalls and boulders, we made our way over to the airport (where J and I, to our delight, discovered an abundance of wild strawberries, which we promptly smashed into our faces) before taking to the skies to see all that we had just finished exploring, but from a bird's eye view from above. It was breathtakingly stunning. I don't imagine that view would ever get close to boring.

A picturesque airport indeed

What a beautiful day to take to the skies and an absolutely incredible memory!
